What is the Blood S.T.R.E.A.M.S. Youth Program?
Our Mission
The mission of the Blood S.T.R.E.A.M.S. Youth Program is to act as a support group and networking outlet for those who are affected by Sickle Cell Disease, ages thirteen to nineteen. We are a diverse group of young adults that want to educate the community on the disease that affects the African- American community.
We plan to promote more effective means of communication, alternative treatments, resources, research for a cure, and increase awareness by bringing the F.A.C.E. of Sickle Cell Disease to the forefront of representation in the main-stream media.
S.T.R.E.A.M.S. is an acronym and each letter is defined below:- S: Sickle Cell
- T: Teens
- R: Reaching
- E: Encouraging
- A: Achieving and
- M: Maintaining
- S: Success
Our Goal
Along with the support of our community, we plan to promote a national campaign to generate awareness about Sickle Cell. No matter the age, gender, religious preference or ethnic background, we plan to unite those with and without Sickle Cell Disease and render aid to those who are sick, in need of surgery, or those who cannot afford medical treatment, as well as provide a safe and comfortable outlet to those who need support.
